Abstract Donnelly has interviewed and counseled hundreds of people dealing with the loss of a loved one to AIDS. Here, in the words of such survivors, she c aptures the nuances so frequently characteristic of that particular lossthe secrecy, the mixed feelings, and the social stigma that all too often make survivors of AIDS patients hidden grievers, thei r loss exacerbated by the loneliness of unacknowledged mourning.
